France and Scotland will get their World Cup warm-up preparations underway in earnest when they clash on Saturday the 17th of August.

France and Scotland will go square off at the Allianz Riviera in the first game of their international double-header on Saturday the 17th of August. Both sides endured sub-par Six Nations campaigns with the French only registering two wins and the ‘Scots on posting one.

While both sides will be looking to experiment somewhat before the upcoming World Cup, they will also be keen on getting the result so as to build some positive momentum heading into the kick-off of the global showpiece event.

France
Le Bleu have a lot of work to do before the World Cup kicks off. A number of senior players were cut from their squad earlier in the year with the emphasis on playing personnel shifting from senior pros to young promising talent. And while they do have had some highly-rated youngsters make their debuts this year, they’re far from the finished package which is rather worrying with the World Cup just around the corner.

The French fared rather well against the ‘Scots when the two sides met in the Six Nations as they ran out 27-10 victors in Paris. It must be noted, however, that the ‘Scots had a major injury crisis at the time.

Scotland
Gregor Townsend’s side have seen their stocks fall since the turn of the year with a poor Six Nations campaign the reason for this. They’re still a quality outfit, though, as they showed during their last outing which saw them come from behind to draw 38-38 with England in the final round of the Six Nations.

It will be interesting to see how many fringe players Townsend gives a run. He will likely look to field a second-string side here and then send out the big guns when the two teams meet at Murrayfield the following weekend. As such, we can expect to see the likes of Blair Kinghorn and Adam Hastings take to the field in the place of seasoned Veterans Stuart Hogg and Finn Russel.

Verdict: Scotland 21/10
This should be a great game with both sides likely to take an attacking approach to it. I can see the ‘Scots sneaking a rare victory out in France.
