NEWS JUST IN: Eddie Jones makes a welcome return to Japan as head coach

In what has been the worst-kept secret, former Wallabies coach Eddie Jones has been appointed as Japan’s head coach following a dismal effort at the World Cup in France.

Jones will start his second tenure as Japan’s head coach in January 2024. He will oversee the Brave Blossoms until at least the 2027 World Cup in Australia.

The Australian will take over from Jamie Joseph who ends his tenure as Japan’s head coach after being unable to escape their Pool at the 2023 World Cup.

Under Joseph, Japan reached the World Cup quarter-finals for the first back in 2019.

The news has generated heat from many rugby pundits worldwide, including words from a former All Black Sonny Bill Williams.

Williams has launched a stinging attack on Eddie Jones calling him ‘a disgrace’ who has ‘lied’ to the Australian players and fans.

If you remember, the 63-year-old had repeatedly denied being linked with the job and now many people including two-time World Cup winner Williams has gone out to slam the former Wallaby coach.

“My thoughts on this whole saga is that he lied. He lied to the players, he lied to the public, and he lied to the Australian Rugby Union. What a disgrace”, said Williams.

During Jone’s time with the Wallabies, he only won two of nine Test matches. That run included the World Cup where the Wallabies failed to get out of their group for the first time ever.
