The Springbok management also confirmed double Rugby World Cup winner Cheslin Kolbe has been released from the training camp and will undergo a medical examination for a knee niggle.

A group of 35 players are currently working hard in the national team camp under the watchful eye of coach Rassie Erasmus in Pretoria.

After his move from the Hollywoodbets Sharks ahead of the current campaign, Gumede has been a revelation for the Bulls under the tutelage of experienced coach Jake White.

The Bulls agreed to release the uncapped Gumede to Boks despite having a crucial battle coming up with Irish giants Leinster in their Vodacom United Rugby Championship semi-final at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday.

The versatile loose forward attended the last Springbok alignment camp.

“Celimpilo has been playing impressive rugby this season and we are excited to see how he integrates into the squad and what he has to offer at training,” said Erasmus in a statement.

“We would like to extend our gratitude to the Vodacom Bulls for allowing him to join us at short notice, especially at such an important point of their Vodacom URC season.”

The Springboks will conclude the first week of their training camp on Friday and will re-assemble on Sunday.

The team that will face Wales in the opening Test of the season at Twickenham will be named next week on Tuesday, with the squad set to depart for London a day later, next Wednesday evening.
