IRB Under 20 Championship: England v South Africa Preview

The Junior Boks will be looking to stun the English when the two sides go head-to-head on Tuesday the 12th of June.

The Junior Boks will be looking to up their game when they take on a rampant English side this Tuesday.

The English have been in almighty form claiming three wins from their three pool fixtures while the South Africans have been far less impressive winning only two of their three pool games.

To Win (80 Mins)
England 1/4
Draw 22/1
South Africa 3/1
Handicap

South Africa (+9.5) 17/20

England

Another impressive campaign from the English youngsters, who came through their pool with three wins and a points differential of +84. Their three pool phase victories came over Argentina (38-19), Italy (43-5) and Scotland (35-10).

Key to England’s run to the semi-finals is their forward pack’s ability to not only dominate the set-piece but also the breakdown. The South Africans are guilty of allowing the ruck area to become an absolute bunfight, and if they are not more clinical with their cleanouts then they will have no chance of getting one over the English.

South Africa
Hardly a vintage showing from Chean Roux’s men, who were extremely lucky to actually qualify for the semi-finals with Italy’s shock victory over the Argentines securing the Baby Boks passage.

The South Africans opened their campaign with a narrow 33-27 victory over the Georgians and followed that up with an iffy 30-17 victory over the Irish. Their worst performance to date came against the French in their final pool phase fixture where they went down 29-46.

Verdict: England (-9.5) 17/20
The South Africans are struggling to find any sort of cohesion, with their midfield looking like a bunch of blokes who have never gone through a shadow run together. I can see a well-drilled English side taking this one at a canter.
