According to reports, clenbuterol is used by many bodybuilders to lose weight and produce muscle. It is also used by asthma patients.

Jantjies tested positive for the substance in a sample provided to the South African Institute for Drug-Free Sport (SAIDS) in June last year. He pleaded not guilty and vowed to prove his innocence and was later suspended in August 2023.

He subsequently pushed for his legal team to instruct a B-sample to be tested, which has now also come back positive for clenbuterol.

On Thursday SAIDS released a statement stating that there is indeed a presence of prohibited substance in the athlete’s sample.

SAIDS also confirmed that a written decision was issued as Jantjies did not exercise his right to have his case heard before an Independent Doping Hearing Panel (IDHP).

This potential career ending ordeal is not the only one, as Jantjies was also recently in hot water for having an affair with Springbok team dietician Zeenat Simjee.

He was also arrested and charged with malicious damage to property and contravention of the Aviation Act after he allegedly lost it on an Emirates flight that landed at OR Tambo International in Johannesburg.
