The Durban franchise took to social media on Wednesday afternoon to confirm the rumour that was first reported in January. The signing reunites Jordan with his older brother, scrumhalf Jayden, who recently renewed his Sharks contract.

“Jordan has been an integral member of the Lions team over the last few years, but he is excited to start a new chapter in Durban where he will undoubtedly compete for the No.10 jersey and aim to contribute positively to a strong Sharks team that is currently undergoing a rebuild under coach John Plumtree,” read a statement from Sharks’ owners Roc Nation in part.

Born in King Williams Town, Hendrikse would eventually attend Glenwood High School and play age-group rugby in the Sharks’ structures. He also featured for the South African Schools A side in 2019 and the Junior Springboks before signing with the Lions in 2021. Hendrikse also made his debut for the Springbok Sevens in 2022.

The 22-year-old was called up to the Springboks’ upcoming alignment camp, proving that coach Rassie Erasmus has plans for the rising star.

Hendrikse’s Lions contract only ends in December, so Sharks fans may have to wait until January to see their new talent. However, an early release from the contract is also a possibility.

Sharks are also expected to announce the signings of Springboks Trevor Nyakane and Andre Esterhuizen shortly.
