Kaunda Ntunja’s Phaka Predictions for Round 11 of Super Rugby 2019 are…

Crusaders vs Lions
Friday 26th April, 09:35

As wonderful as the Lions were in their huge victory vs the Chiefs last week, this is now the highest level. I believe that they will put up a fight but the Crusaders will be too good.

Phaka Prediction:
Crusaders to win by 12 points.

Sunwolves vs Highlanders
Friday 26th April, 12:00

Ben Smith has been rested for this one and that gives the Sunwolves a better chance to cause an upset. Having said that, they had a perfect opportunity to put away a weakened Hurricanes outfit last week and they butchered it. The Highlanders need this win to get away from the tail of the overall log and begin the fight to be in a playoff spot.

Phaka Prediction:
Highlanders to win by 6 points.

Hurricanes vs Chiefs
Saturday 27th April, 09:35

The Barrett brothers are back and that changes everything. Unfortunately for the Chiefs, the season ending injury to Damian McKenzie probably means that they are no longer genuine contenders for a playoff spot. I also believe that this injury gives other international teams a better chance to beat the All Blacks in the World Cup. Such is the significance of D-Mac. Brodie Retallick is also still recovering from an injury so he isn’t available. This match can only go one way.

Phaka Prediction:
Hurricanes to win by 10 points.

Waratahs vs Sharks
Saturday 27th April, 11:45

This is a difficult one to call because I believe that the Sharks will fire with Curwin Bosch at flyhalf and Aphelele Fassi at fullback. Akker vd Merwe has also returned from suspension and will be coming off the bench. I’m just concerened though that with the amount of Wallabies in this Waratahs side and with them brimming with confidence after a huge win vs the Rebels they might have the slight edge at home.

Phaka Prediction:
Waratahs to win by 5 points.

Stormers vs Bulls
Saturday 27th April, 15:05

I remember commentating on the Bulls vs Stormers match in the first week of the tournament. That week the Stormers were going through a whole lot of off-field drama and ended up getting hammered 40-3. A lot has changed since then with the Stormers looking a little bit more stable even though their results might not reflect that. The Bulls are not looking like the menacing force that they were at the start of the tournament. This one will be close.

Phaka Prediction:
Bulls to win by 3 points.

Jaguares vs Brumbies
Saturday 27th April, 23:40

The Jaguares have surprised me a lot because I had no faith in them after Nicholas Sanchez left to play in Europe. They are now positioned to potentially win the SA conference which would be a massive achievement. They won’t let this one slip.

Phaka Prediction:
Jaguares to win by 7 points.
