PRO 14 Semi-Finals: Glasgow v Ulster Preview

Rugby Players enter a scrum

The Glasgow Warriors will take on Ulster on Friday the 17th May in the first of this season’s PRO14 semi-finals.

The Warriors will be looking to keep Scottish hopes alive when they play host to Irish outfit this Friday evening. The visitors are one of three Irish sides who made the semi-finals with Leinster and Munster set to square off the following day.

So will Scotland have a representative in the PRO14 final or will it be an all-Irish affair?

Glasgow
The Warriors have enjoyed a solid PRO14 campaign finishing at the top of Conference A with 15 wins from their 21 regular season games. This is quite an achievement considering they lost talismanic fly-half Finn Russell at the start of the season with the Scottish international moving to Racing Metro.

As the Warriors secured top spot on their Conference they didn’t have to go through the play-offs like Ulster. This could actually backfire for the Scottish outfit as they have now gone two weeks without a competitive match and could possibly be a bit ring rusty this Friday.

The hosts do come into this one with a psychological edge having beaten their opponents at the Scoutstoun 30-7 earlier on in the season.

Ulster
The Ulstermen face a daunting challenge this weekend with a fired-up Warriors outfit lying in wait at a venue the visitors will have bitter memories of. They actually will have bitter venues of a lot of away venues as Ulster have only recorded five away victories this term.

The Irish Province finished second in Conference B which meant that they faced a tricky home play-off date with fellow Irish side Connacht. They managed to win that fixture 21-13 but the scoreline was rather flattering with Connacht giving them a stiff challenge.

Verdict: Glasgow 1/4 *Forecast Odds
I cannot see Ulster getting up for this one. Glasgow are a solid team at home while Ulster struggle on the road. I can see the hosts taking this one by between seven and 14 points.
