The pick of this weekend’s two PRO14 play-offs will see Ulster play host to arch-rivals Connacht. There is no love lost between these two sides and we should be in for an extremely heated affair at the Kingspan this Saturday.

The Ulstermen have enjoyed a decent year to date and managed to bag hosting rights to this play-off courtesy of finishing as runners-up to Leinster in Pool B. The hosts enjoyed a solid if not spectacular round-robin phase winning 15 of their 21 fixtures.
Ulster have produced some of their best form in recent weeks and head into Saturday’s derby showdown having won four of their last five games with their last defeat coming three gameweeks ago where they went down 30-7 to a rampant Glasgow Warriors outfit.
Connacht
Connacht have also been in solid touch over the past month and a half and head into the play-offs having won four of their last five games. They do, however, come into this one off the back of a 27-14 loss to Munster but they did not field a full-strength squad for the clash as they had already secured qualification to the play-offs.
The visitors have a solid recent record against their hosts having won three of the last four games between the sides with one of the victories coming at the Kingspan. The last encounter between the duo was played in December of last year and saw Connacht run out 21-12 victors.
Verdict: Connacht 2/1
I’m going to have a small wager on the visitors here. They have a solid squad who know how to get the job done away from home.
