PRO14: Round 6 Preview

Rugby Players enter a scrum

Darry Worthington takes a look at all the Round 6 PRO14, which gets underway on Friday the 1st of November.

While the rugby world’s focus will be on the World Cup final in Yokohoma, there’s a plethora of European domestic action on the go including what looks to be a belter of a PRO 14 round.

Ulster v Zebre
Friday 1 November
Kingspan Stadium
21:35

To Win (80 Mins)
Ulster 1/33
Draw 40/1
Zebre 9/1

Handicap
Ulster (-25.5) 17/20
Zebre (+25.5) 17/20

Ulster will be looking to claim a bonus point victory when they take on a struggling Zebre side on Friday evening.

The hosts have won three of their opening four games with their only defeat coming at the hands of a rampant Free State Cheetahs side out in Bloemfontein. They also head into this one off a confidence boosting 23-14 win over the Cardiff Blues.

Zebre have endured a far tougher start to the season and head into this one having lost their first four games. They have a -106 point differential. They did give a decent account of themselves last weekend as they went down by just three points to Leinster.

Verdict: Ulster (-25.5) 17/20
Ulster know how to score tries and Zebre know how to concede them. I can see the hosts running up a mammoth score here.

Glasgow Warriors v Southern Kings
Friday 1 November
Scoutstoun Stadium
21:35

To Win (80 Mins)
Glasgow 1/50
Draw 40/1
Kings 19/2

Handicap
Glasgow (-26.5) 17/20
Kings  (+26.5) 17/20

Like Ulster, the Glasgow Warriors will be looking to rack up the full five-points from their encounter with South African minnows, the Southern Kings.

The hosts have struggled this term and only have one win from their opening four fixtures and head into this one off the back of a disappointing 18-5 loss to the Dragons.

The Kings have been even worse and are yet to register a victory. They sit at the foot of Conference B with a -46 points differential to their names.

Verdict: Glasgow (-26.5) 17/20
With a few Scottish internationals back in their ranks I can see Glasgow getting a big win.

Leinster v Dragons
Friday 1 November
RDS Arena
21:35

To Win (80 Mins)
Leinster 1/25
Draw 40/1
Dragons 8/1

Handicap
Leinster (-23.5) 17/20
Dragons (+23.5) 17/20

Leinster will be looking to maintain their flawless start to the campaign when they take on a Dragons side who have started to look the business in recent weeks.

The hosts, despite missing a number of internationals, have had a rollicking old start to the campaign and currently sit top of the pops in Conference A with their latest result being a hard-fought 0-3 win over Zebre.

The Dragons, who endured a tough old start to the season, head into this one off the back of a rather impressive 18-5 victory over the Glasgow Warriors.

Verdict: Dragons (+23.5) 17/20
While I think Leinster will win this one at a canter, I don’t think they will clear what is a massive handicap.

Scarlets v Cheetahs
Saturday 2 November
Parc Y Scarlets
17:00

To Win (80 Mins)
Scarlets 7/10
Draw 18/1
Cheetahs 5/4

The Cheetahs will be looking to bounce back from their first defeat of the season when they take on the Scarlets in Saturday’s opener.

The Free Staters won all three of their home games and then lost their first tour fixture last weekend going down 24-22 to Connacht.

The Scarlets have also only tasted defeat once this season and head into this game off the back of a 46-7 defeat to Edinburgh.

Verdict: Cheetahs 5/4
I rather fancy the upset here. The Cheetahs were solid last weekend and were unlucky to lose to Connacht. I can see them bouncing back here.

Treviso v Edinburgh
Saturday 2 November
Stadio Communale Monigo
19:15

To Win (80 Mins)
Treviso 11/10
Draw 18/1
Edinburgh 8/10

Treviso will be looking for their second win of the campaign when they take on Edinburgh this Saturday.

The hosts have lost three of their four opening fixtures but head into this one off the back of their first win of the campaign; a 36-30 victory over the Kings.

Edinburgh have enjoyed a a far better start to the campaign winning three of their first four fixtures. One of these wins came last weekend as they beat the Scarlets 46-7.

Verdict: Edinburgh 8/10
The visitors offer decent value at 8/10.

Ospreys v Connacht
Saturday 2 November
Liberty Stadium
19:15

To Win (80 Mins)
Ospreys 5/4
Draw 18/1
Connacht 7/10

Connacht travel to Wales to take on the Ospreys in the weekend’s penultimate game. The visitors have had a solid old start to the season and currently sit at the top of the Pool B conference with three wins from their four fixtures.

Ospreys have been far more subdued this term losing three of their opening four games. They head into this fixture off the back of a 28-12 defeat to Munster.

Verdict: Connacht 7/10
Once again, I’m on the away side. Connacht really do look the goods and I can see them winning this one by more than four points.

Cardiff Blues v Munster
Saturday 2 November
Cardiff Arms
21:35

To Win (80 Mins)
Cardiff 14/10
Draw 18/1
Munster 6/10

Welsh rivalries will be renewed once again this weekend with the Cardiff Blues and Munster squaring off in the final game of Round 5.

The hosts currently sit second-to-last on the Conference B standings and have only won one of their four fixtures. They head into this one having gone down 24-13 to Ulster last weekend.

Munster have been in far better form thus far and currently sit in second on Conference B with three wins from their four games. They garnered one of those victories last weekend beating Munster 28-12.

Verdict: Munster 6/10
I cannot see the Munster men losing this one. They may not be huge value at 6/10 but they’re definitely worth adding to multiples.
