There were wins for England, Italy, South Africa, France, Wales and New Zealand on the opening day of the World Rugby U20 Championship.
England saw off Argentina 39-18 in Narbonne thanks to tries from the impressive Jordan Olowofela (2), Henry Walker (2) and starlet Marcus Smith.
South Africa were made to work as they edged out Georgia 33-27, with Wandisile Simelane, Muller Uys (2), Tyrone Green and Zak Burger crossing.
Meanwhile, there was a shock in the other early game as Italy beat Scotland 27-26. A penalty try was followed up by Giovanni D’Onofrio and Alessandro Forcucci’s tries before a late Niccolo Taddia crossing saw the Azzurri come out on top and Scotland suffer a tough defeat.
In the late matches hosts France beat Ireland 26-24 thanks to tries from Maxime Marty (2), Arthur Coville and Romain Ntamack, Wales overcame Australia 26-21, Ioan Nicholas and Joe Goodchild going over, while New Zealand eased past Japan 67-0, with Jamie Spowat scoring a hat-trick in the 11-try win.
