OPINION: Springboks’ return might just be what the doctor ordered for wounded Hollywoodbets Sharks

The Hollywoodbets Sharks would’ve been overjoyed with the news that fellow Springbok teammates have arrived back in training, hinting that more could feature this weekend.

The KZN outfit has had a difficult start to the United Rugby Championship – losing their first five games with their last one was their first home defeat.

However, that hasn’t killed their spirits as they welcomed back their returning Springboks to training this week. This could be exactly the type of energy the boys in black & white would need to ignite their URC campaign.

Lukhanyo Am is one of the double World Cup-winning Boks in the Sharks setup who did return to play in that loss to Connacht, and he is just so glad to be out there in the park after a long injury delay.

“For me, playing my first game after a long-term injury, was such a bonus”, says Lukhanyo.

Seeing the double World Cup winner on the field is a great welcome sign that the fans can get behind.

As we learned earlier in the month, the Sharks will be without Springboks Bongi Mbonambi who has undergone surgery and Vincent Koch who already faces three months on the sidelines.

We still have plenty in the tank as the returning Boks will put more grunt and steal in both defence and attack.

The Sharks are now a wounded animal and it’s only a matter of time before they start to hunt on all their prey in the URC competition.

They just need to get things going on their campaign by having a win at the Tank.

Lukhanyo on the other hand is very upbeat about this weekend’s match at home against the Dragons as the return of the World Cup Springbok heroes to training this week.

“Coming back from national duties, re-joining the boys with so much energy, it’s been really good. We’ve got certain players back from national duties in terms of prep and showing off their experiences to the group, and I’m looking forward to this game”, said Lukhanyo.

The Hollywoodbets Sharks will be taking on Dragon RFC at 19:05 at the Hollywoodbets Kings Park stadium this Saturday, 25 November.
