Chippa United owner Siviwe Mpengesi, who controversially backed Nigeria to beat Bafana Bafana in their AFCON semi-final, has once again gone public with his admiration for club goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, who starred for the Super Eagles on Wednesday night.

While Bafana Bafana skipper Ronwen Williams was the shoot-out hero in the quarter-final it was Nwabali who was the hero in the semi-final, and Mpengesi was full of praise for the Nigerian shot-stopper.

“The club wishes to extend its congratulations to Stanley Nwabali for his extraordinary achievement in reaching the Afcon final and for also earning the man of the match award.

“Our support for you remains steadfast. You have represented the Chippa United brand admirably and we are immensely proud of you.

“We will be rooting for you in the final against Ivory Coast on Sunday,” read a statement from the club.

Nwabali and Nigeria are set to face hosts Ivory Coast in the tournament final on Sunday.

Kick-off is at 22:00.
