Match 17 – Senegal v Cameroon
Friday 18 January | 19:00

Senegal certainly had it all bossed proceedings against Gambia in their tournament opener. Cameroon will certainly provide a sterner test of the defending champions’ credentials. This has the potential to be one of the games of the competition so far.

To Win Match
Senegal 19/20 | Draw 37/20 | Cameroon 31/10

Following their opening win, Senegal are a win away from booking their place for the next round. Crushing through to a 3-0 win against Gambia last week Saturday just proved why the current Africa champs are one of the teams to beat.

Also, it makes things more interesting as they have a young talent who has so much buzz around him that you could potentially see Senegal reclaiming the crown once again. Attacking midfielder Lamine Camara rose to the occasion and netted twice as the Lions of Teranga made their mark on the tournament.

The Indomitable Lions will need to bounce back from the last result if they want a shot at reaching the next stage of AFCON.

Their Group C match against Guinea ended in a 1-1 stalemate after they came back from a goal down. While they made a valiant effort and bagged one point for their troubles, Cameroon coach Rigobert Song thought his side had a chance to win it in the end.

“We controlled the flow of the match, but we were not able to score the second goal of the match to take the victory, I hope to do it in the next match”, Said Song.

Cameroon will be hoping that Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana returns between the sticks and captain Vincent Aboubakar fully recovered from his injury.

Aboubakar is one of four players in the Cameroon squad for this month’s tournament who was also in the team in 2017 when the Indomitable Lions won the trophy in Gabon.

Verdict: Senegal 19/20

The first match that Senegal was involved in showed true class as they blew their opponents away. They are the favourites to win this and even though they are facing a bigger test in Cameroon, I would still back them to succeed once again.
