Hosts Ivory Coast completed a fairytale triumph after defeating Nigeria 2-1 in a tense Africa Cup of Nations final in Abidjan on Sunday.
Striker Sebastien Haller completed a trademark comeback win for the hosts in the 81st minute after midfielder Franck Kessie had levelled matters for The Elephants after captain William Troost-Ekong had given the Super Eagles an early lead.
The win completes a remarkable fairytale ending for the hosts who scraped through to the knockout stages while suffering a 4-0 drubbing to Equatorial Guinea in the group stages.
It is the third continental trophy in Ivory Coast’s footballing history, who move alongside Nigeria in the all-time AFCON standings.
Egypt holds the record with the most AFCON wins (7), followed by Cameroon (5), and Ghana (4).
