Mokwena is currently guiding The Red Castle through pre-season and has signed a few players after gathering a couple of key personnel to be part of his technical team.

Among Mokwena’s lieutenants is his mentor Allan Freese, who comes with a lot of experience after holding coaching roles in various Premier Soccer League sides such as AmaZulu.

“We are in the second week of our five-week program and we are quietly going about our business trying to put together a very competitive squad.

“We still have a hell of a lot of work to do and we know we need to push ourselves to try to get into a good condition,” Mokwena said on Wydad’s X account.

“We have to give a lot of compliments to the work that is done behind the scenes by everybody who is involved. The recruitment and the bringing in of the players.

“From the technical team, which involves coach Sinethemba Badela, coach Freese, and our analyst, Sibusiso Makitla – they are doing incredible work.

“I have to also give huge credit to the board, the president of the club and senior management for the acquisition of some of the players and this makes us come into the second week in a better shape than we were in the beginning.

At Mamelodi Sundowns, Mokwena set up his team to play in a modern 4-4-2 formation and it remains to be seen whether he will effect a complete overhaul of Wydad’s direct football or hybrid his style with that of the Moroccan giants.

“That’s not easy because we have to try and change the personality of the team and try to induct the new players into what we believe will be a way of playing that will bring us a lot of success and make the supporters very happy.

“We just have to focus on that and slowly but surely, move into the next coming week and get ourselves in good shape.

“We have certain objectives every week and moving into what will be a very competitive period where we play a lot of friendly games and try to get the conditioning and the game personnel and the methodology going,” Mokwena concluded.
