Mane’s move from Liverpool now has question marks floating around it after a poor first season. The Senegal international started only 18 times in the league and scored seven goals.

He also had a well-publicised bust-up with teammate Leroy Sane in April, which left Sane with a bloody lip. The 31-year-old was given a record fine for the club and suspended for one game.

Owing to poor form and his off-the-field misdemeanours the 31-year-old has fallen behind in the pecking order behind Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry, with Tuchel saying the side already has its “constellation”.

“Basically, Sadio had an unsatisfactory season and fell short of expectations,” said Tuchel. “The competitive situation is extremely high for him with Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry, we have a constellation which makes it very difficult for Sadio. The player knows that too, he knows my opinion and the opinion of the club.”

Mane is now being linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq, who have Liverpool great Steven Gerrard at the helm and are looking to sign several former Reds Jordan Henderson and Philippe Coutinho.
