Cape Town City progressed into the quarter-finals of the Nedbank Cup on Wednesday when the defeated in-form Orlando Pirates 1-0 at the Cape Town Stadium.

In the opening to the game Justin Shonga hit the woodwork after an error from Bradley Ralani. Siyabonga Mpontshane also produced a fine save from Ayanda Patosi.
After the break, Patosi hit the winner in the 54th minute although Shonga had a chance to level matters later on but was denied by goalkeeper Sage Stepehens.

Match report
It was a tight encounter in the opening 45 minutes though Shonga did go close inside the first opening exchanges as a mistake by Ralani led to a chance for the Zambia international.
However, he saw his strike hit the woodwork with Stephens in goal left with very little chance had it been on target. With that said, soon after Patosi came close to the opener when he forced a fine save from Siyabonga Mpontshane in goal.
In the 16th minute, Thamsanqa Mkhize went close as he saw his header from a corner stopped well by Mpontshane, before defender Happy Jele cleared the danger in a frenetic piece of action.
On the half-an-hour mark the lively Lyle Lakay then threatened as he showed pace and skill before seeing his strike fly just wide of the target.
Nonetheless, the Sea Robbers nearly hit the front just before half-time as Marshall Munetsi went close. When a corner landed at the feet of the Zimbabwean, he saw his strike fly just wide of the target.
After the break, the Citizens hit the front after good work from Ralani in the 54th minute. The forward sent in a pin-point cross which Patosi slotted home beyond Mpontshane in the 54th minute.
Bucs tried to respond and were close to an equaliser on the hour mark, however, Munetsi saw his header cleared off the line by the alert veteran Teko Modise.
In the closing stages Shonga had a great chance to level matters although he was superbly thwarted by Stephens as it ended 1-0 in the Mother City.
