David de Gea Surpasses Ronaldo in Prestigious Award

The 27-year-old Spanish number one has been excellent for Manchester United this season, helping the club to second place on the Premier League standings and an FA Cup final.


Since his first season with the Red Devils as a shy 21-year-old, the former Atletico Madrid shotstopper has grown into the world-class keeper that everyone anticipated he would.

De Gea, who revealed his delight at the accolade to MUTV, has now surpassed Cristiano Ronaldo who claim the award three times. Ander Herrera won it last season.

He MUTV: “It is difficult to say with words what Manchester United means for me, and for anyone it is amazing to play for this club, for the fans, for the history, it is amazing to play for this club.

“It was a bit hard at the beginning, but I believe in myself, I train hard. I want to say thanks for everyone, I didn’t expect to win just one and now I have four. Thanks for everything.”

“It is always special to receive this award, especially from my team-mates. I love all of them so I am very happy,” De Gea said.

De Gea was also named as United’s Players’ Player of the Year while Scott McTominay won the Manager’s Player of the Season award.
