Diouf: Percy Tau More Talented than Salah and Mane

Former Senegal international El Hadji Diouf is confident that Mamelodi Sundowns forward Percy Tau would be a big success in Europe.

Tau has been in sensational form for Sundowns this season and has netted 13 league and cup goals, while also being involved in 13 assists.

His coach Pitso Mosimane has said recently that the 23-year-old is good enough to play in one of Europe’s ‘top five’ leagues, referring to England, Spain, Germany, Italy and France.

And Diouf, a former Liverpool forward, has now gone a step further by saying that Bafana Bafana regular Tau is potentially even better than two of the Red’s biggest stars, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, who have bagged 57 goals between them so far this season.

“I spoke to Percy Tau and asked him what he was still doing in the PSL,” Diouf said while on a visit to SAFA House on Monday as part of the Moroccan 2026 FIFA World Cup bid.

“The boy is good to play for any team in the world including Real Madrid or any of England’s top sides. The boy is quality. Tau has no reason to still be playing in South Africa. He is more talented than Sadio Mane or even Mo Salah.”

Diouf also believes that more players from the PSL should be challenging themselves to move abroad.

“South African players play the best football but need that international experience one only gets by playing in big European leagues.

“I always ask myself why there is no South African playing either in England or Spain yet the country has the most talented players. They are too comfortable playing at home; which is wrong.”
