Euro 2020 – Spain vs Poland – Group E

Both Spain and Poland head into this hoping to rebound from initial failures against Sweden and Slovakia.

Both Spain and Poland head into this hoping to rebound from initial failures against Sweden and Slovakia. Star player Robert Lewandowski made no impact whatsoever against the stern defensive line of Slovakia. Can he inspire the Poles’ success in his second match of Euro 2020?

Spain and Poland take on each other in a must-win situation after both teams were disappointing in their opening fixtures. Group favourites Spain are thus in danger of getting eliminated in the first round and it would be an embarrassment considering they are playing at home. There will be no room for mistakes for either of these sides at Sevilla this Saturday.

To Win
Spain 7/20
Draw 4/1
Poland 7/1

Spain

A very disappointing performance from one of the host nations and it was clear and obvious that Spain team lack leaders and they do not have a key player who will be their go-to-guy when things get tougher.

Gaffer, Luis Enrique started his second spell very well showing his class in the UEFA Nations League when he thrashed 2014 World Champions Germany 6-0 in the first-round fixture. Though that was an impressive win, we did make mention that there is still work to be done in the Spanish team. My first suggestion would be starting Gerard Morena ahead of Alvaro Morata, who for me, should not have been in the squad.

If Enrique is serious about qualifying, he needs to justify the favourites tag and start players who deserve to be playing. His selection in the first round was very questionable and it was no surprise that they drew the game.

Poland

Poland opened their Euro 2020 campaign with a very disappointing defeat against Slovakia. The Poles did nothing right on the day and were deserving of the defeat.

However, Poland has something that Spain does not have, which is a leader, and a go-to-guy in Robert Lewandowski. Their only plan of turning things around and wining such bouts will all depend on the Bayern Munich man translating his club form to international level, something he has done since Euro 2016.

Under fire coach, Paulo Sousa, is aware that another defeat would almost mean ‘tournament over’ for his side and imply complete failure at international level. Having coached just six matches for Poland, the former Leicester manager is yet to win a single fixture in a major international tournament.

Prediction: Under 2.5 Goals
I cannot trust either team on current form, so my suggestion is to back Under 2.5 Goals at 7/10. There are no goal scorers in the Spanish team and those who know how to score are on the bench. On the other side, Lewandowski is just a different player when he wears a national kit, he is totally different from the player that plays in the Bundesliga.
