Former Warriors boss Norman Mapeza was most recently in interim charge of the team, having taken over from the sacked Baltemar Brito.

But as the country intensify their search for a permanent successor, it appears as if Papic is leading a list of candidates that also includes former SuperSport United manager Kaitano Tembo.

The Zimbabwe Football Association are said to have approached Papic ahead of their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and South Africa in June.

While the Serbia coach could not be reached for his comment, Tembo told FARPost: “I’ve gained a lot of experience, and for me, I’m a coach, and when you’re a coach, you don’t say I don’t want.

“If the opportunity comes for me to coach the Warriors, I’m available. I’m a coach, and I can coach anywhere.

“I won’t say they haven’t approached me. But the most important thing to say is that I am available.”
