Two players chasing the soccer ball

Harry Kane scored a Boxing Day hat-trick to topple Alan Shearer’s 22-year long-standing record that Shearer set for Blackburn Rovers in 1995.

Harry Kane scored his 37th goal this calendar year to break Shearer’s record of 36 when he netted his first goal against Southampton on Boxing Day.  The Tottenham talisman went on to score his sixth hat-trick this year – setting another record of most three-fors in a calendar year.

The feat sees Kane round off 2017 with the most goals in a calendar year across all leagues in Europe (55), surpassing Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Thus making it the first time in nine years another player beside Messi or Ronaldo have ended the year with the most goals.

Kane has vowed to improve his form and continue breaking records. The 24-year-old has plenty of football in him and looks forward to 2018.

Alan Shearer took to Twitter to congratulate Harry Kane.

Kane posted this tweet after his side’s victory over Southampton.
