Germany got their 2024 Euro Group A opener off to the perfect start as Bayer Leverkusen attacker Florian Wirtz scored early in the 10th minute.

Jamal Musiala then doubled the Germans’ lead by firing an effort high into the net from inside the box as the home side piled the pressure on the Scots.

Defender Ryan Porteous then compounded Scotland’s troubles by receiving a straight red card for a horrendous two-footed tackle inside the area.

Kai Havertz then converted the resultant penalty as the contest swung fully in the favour of Germany with a high-scoring win looking likely.

Substitutes Niclas Fullkrug and Emre Can got on the scoresheet for Germany while Antonio Rudiger scored an own goal in the latter stages of the contest as the match finished 5-1 in favour of Germany in a convincing win in front of a fervent home crowd.
