Jadon Sancho: Man Utd to Dortmund

English winger Jadon Sancho returned to his former club Borussia Dortmund on a loan deal until the end of a season. He left Manchester United under a cloud, after falling out of favour with Erik ten Hag. The 23-year-old player joined United in 2021 and made 58 appearances, netting nine times. In truth, he never really settled at Manchester United and you struggle to see him returning to the side if the Dutch manager is still in charge at the end of the season. Sancho has already made three appearances for Dortmund, providing two assists.

Jordan Henderson: Al-Ettifaq to Ajax

In one of this window’s stranger moves, former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson made the move back to Europe. He joined Eredivise side Ajax after spending six months playing in the Saudi Pro League for Al-Ettifaq. Henderson signed an 18-month deal with Ajax as he terminated his contract with his Saudi employers.

Kalvin Phillips: Man City to West Ham

Former Leeds midfielder Kalvin Phillips joined West Ham from Manchester City on a loan deal as the 28-year-old is looking to secure more playing time with an eye on making Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2024 team. Phillips arrived at City in July 2022 and only managed to make 31 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side, becoming the butt of plenty of Twitter jokes as he found his playing time extremely limited at City. He’s signed with the Hammers on a load deal with an option to buy.

Eric Dier: Tottenham to Bayern Munich

If you had told anyone two years ago that Eric Dier and Harry Kane would be Bayern Munich teammates you’d have been laughed ou tof town, but here we are. Bayern completed the signing of England defender Dier from Tottenham Hotspur on a loan deal until 30 June 2024 with the option for another year. The 29-year-old’s departure to Germany comes after a nine-and-a-half-year stay in north London. Dier, joins his former team-mate Harry Kane who arrived at Allianz Arena in August.

Timo Werner: RB Leipzig to Tottenham

Germany forward Timo Werner returned to England to join Tottenham from RB Leipzig on loan. The former Chelsea man returns to London just 18 months after he left the Blues to re-join Leipzig. The striker signed a six-month loan deal with an option to buy reportedly around £15.5million. The 27-year-old was also linked with Manchester United during this January transfer window. Will he succeed in his second stint in England?
