Battleready: Can Bafana forwards bring league form to national duty?

South African forwards Lyle Foster, Zakhele Lepasa and Lebo Mothiba are all flying high in three different leagues across the globe ahead of this encounter.

Between them sit more than 12 goals scored across all competitions, and their scoring form is exciting to watch.

They are the type of example the national team should be aiming to display; a fully talented squad, comprising of players collecting their experience in various parts of the world.

I think their peak in fitness and form has come at the right time, especially with football fans calling for Bafana to go back to their days of challenging for international tournaments.

In Lepasa, skill and pace is to be expected as the Orlando Pirates man has netted 10 times in all competitions in the PSL, while Lyle Foster has been impressive as he discovers his form with Burnley in the Premier League.

Mothiba has also been good to watch for Strasbourg in Ligue 1, getting his name on the scoresheet in a 2-1 win at home to Olympique Lyon in the early stages of the season.

We might be looking at Bafana’s front three for the next five years if not more, but they need to start playing together and getting familiar with each other on the pitch.
