After leaving Chiefs in 2023 to join St. Louis City in the MLS, Blom had an impressive season under coach Bradley Carnell.

However, following Carnell’s departure, Blom’s playing time diminished under a new coach, which led to his omission from the South African squad.

The-24-year-old now rejoined Chiefs on a one-year loan, and Broos hopes the midfielder will get enough game time to earn a spot in the national team once again.

The Belgian coach highlighted the importance of playing regularly, stating that while it’s beneficial to play abroad, it becomes a challenge if a player isn’t getting sufficient minutes.

Blom made his Bafana debut in 2021 under Broos, and the coach remains optimistic about his potential.

“I hope that Njabulo (Blom) will come back to the level he had when he left South Africa,” Broos said.

“I’ve said it many times that it’s good to go abroad but you have to play. In the beginning, he played, then he did not play, and he played again.

“We called him I think a year ago after that he didn’t play again.

“So, let’s hope now that he joined Chiefs he will play and play well because players who are playing well are always candidate to represent Bafana Bafana.”

South Africa are currently preparing for their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Uganda before they jetting off to north-eastern Africa to face South Sudan on Tuesday.
