NEWS: More controversy in Turkish Super Lig as another pitch protest calls game off

The drama never seems to end in Turkish Super Lig as Istanbulspor president Faik Sarialioglu ordered his players off the pitch Trabznospor.

This comes after the Turkish Super Lig was suspended last week after a chairman punched a referee.

Trabzonspor were leading 2-1 against Istanbulspor, this was after Florian Loshaj went down under Batista Mendy’s challenge, but no penalty was awarded.

Soon after that, the game was called off as the Istanbulspor players were called off the pitch in the 73rd minute by their president.

In dramatic scenes, Istanbulspor’s on-loan striker Simon Deli had been on his knees begging the president not to take the team off.

Trabzonspor coach Abdullah Avci was disappointed by the way the match had turned out at the end considering they had already seen the league being suspended a couple of weeks ago.

“It is a sad day for football. We will wait for the Football Federation’s decision from now on”, says Avci.

Instanbulspor are at the bottom of the Turkish Super Lig after picking up eight points in 15 games, winning once in their last eight fixtures.

If you remember what happened last week, Turkey’s top flight had returned Tuesday night for the first time since it was suspended.

This was after Ankaragucu president Faruk Koca punched referee Halil Umut Meler in the face after a Super Lig match on 12 December.

Koca has been handed a permanent ban by the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) after being arrested for the incident.
