La Liga: Week 13 Preview

 La-Liga-Week-13-Preview

Our footy writer previews this upcoming weekend’s set of Spanish La Liga matchups.

What a week it was in the Spanish La Liga! Real Madrid showed their class in the Madrid Derby last weekend as a Cristiano Ronaldo hat-trick saw Los Blancos embarrass their arch-rivals, Atletico Madrid, by a 3-0 scoreline at the Vicente Calderon Stadium. Barcelona failed to capitalize on the Madrid giants, struggling to break down a Malaga side which ended the game with nine men.

Sevilla kept up the pressure at the top with their second victory on the road this campaign, sitting in third spot. The biggest game to look forward to this weekend is the clash between in-form Real Sociedad, who have won four consecutive matches, up against second-placed Barcelona.

Friday 25 November

Eibar 19/20 | Draw 47/20 | Real Betis 29/10
Eibar claimed a nail-biting 1-0 victory over Celta Vigo last weekend, courtesy of an early strike from Fran Rico. That was Eibar’s second win on the trot at the Ipurua Municipal Stadium. From the Gunners’ six home games, they’ve managed four wins, losing just once.

Real Betis claimed a much-needed 2-0 victory over Las Palmas last weekend in what was Victor Sanchez’s first game in charge at the helm. Despite Betis looking like a new side under Sanchez, their away form still has me asking plenty of questions, with Los Verdiblancos losing four of their six games on their travels. With Eibar’s impressive home record this season, they should claim maximum points.

Saturday 26 November

Malaga 1/1 | Draw 23/10 | Deportivo 29/10
Malaga pulled off one of the results of the season so far, holding Barcelona to a 0-0 scoreline at the Nou Camp, finishing the match off with as little as nine men on the field. They return to the La Rosaleda Stadium, where they have lost just once this season, winning four of their six matches.

Deportivo almost caused an upset against Sevilla, but let their 2-1 lead slip in the 87th minute, and then late on in the 91st minute, losing the match 3-2. Depor are now winless in five games and are a mere point above the drop zone. All of Malaga’s wins have come from home matches, and I’m expecting another victory for the Boquerones here.

Real Madrid 1/16 | Draw 11/1 | Sporting Gijon 25/1
Real Madrid claimed an emphatic 3-0 win away to their rivals, Atletico Madrid, last weekend. Los Blancos are now four points clear of Barcelona and nine points ahead of Atletico. If Madrid played every game like they did last weekend, then it’s safe to say that they could go on and win the treble. Cristiano Ronaldo showed that no player deserves this year’s Ballon d’Or trophy more than him, netting his 39th hat-trick for Madrid.

Sporting Gijon have been in the opposite form, losing seven of their last nine games, with two draws. It would take a brave person to bet even as little as R1 on Gijon to get a result here. Any market on a Madrid victory is too short, so back Over 3.5 Goals at 7/20.

Espanyol 9/10 | Draw 9/4 | Leganes 34/10
Espanyol kept up their remarkable form last time out, when they humbled Alaves to a 1-0 scoreline away from home. The win put Quique Sanchez Flores’ side closer to the top half of the table, having now gone six games undefeated.

Leganes ended their win drought, picking up a victory against Osasuna, beating them 1-0 to end a run of four straight losses. Espanyol have kept five clean sheets in their last six games, while Leganes’ last four fixtures have seen the Both Teams to Score: No market triggered. Bet smart and back the trend of Both Teams to Score: No to continue at 13/20.

Sevilla 7/10 | Draw 29/10 | Valencia 34/10
Sevilla are proving to the world that they are worthy of competing at the top of La Liga, with Jorge Sampaoli’s side sitting in third position after 12 games. They come up against a Valencia side who have been disappointing so far in the campaign.

Cesare Prandelli’s side are winless in four matches and come off a frustrating 1-1 draw at home to Granada. The Bats have let me down big time this season and I wouldn’t put it past them to not even score this weekend. Sevilla have won five of their six home matches and should produce the goods to get past Valencia.

Sunday 27 November

Villarreal 11/20 | Draw 29/10 | Alaves 57/10
Villarreal suffered their second defeat of the season last weekend as they went down by a 1-0 scoreline against top-four chasing Athletic Bilbao. However, the Yellow Submarine are undefeated on their turf, winning five of their six home matches.

Alaves dropped to 14th spot in the league after they suffered their third loss in four games, going down to Espanyol last weekend. Villarreal have scored 14 goals at the Estadio El Madrigal, conceding just three times. The Yellow Submarine are a certainty here, but for value, back them to Win to Nil at 11/10.

Osasuna 10/1 | Draw 17/4 | Atletico Madrid 3/10
Struggling Osasuna host an Atletico Madrid side looking to turn things around after their 3-0 drubbing against Madrid-rivals, Real Madrid. Osasuna suffered their second straight defeat, and their third in four games, drawing to Athletic Bilbao in that run.

Atletico, surprisingly, are on a run of two consecutive defeats, failing to score in both matches. That feat means that Diego Simeone’s side have lost three of their last four games. However, Osasuna are yet to win on their ground, scoring just four goals. Atletico should come out on top and are tipped to Win to Nil here at 13/20.

Celta Vigo 11/20 | Draw 31/10 | Granada 47/10
Celta Vigo’s three-game unbeaten streak came to an end as Eibar thwarted Eduardo Berizzo’s side to a 1-0 scoreline. Luckily for the Sky Blues, they remain in the top half on 17 points. Granada are undefeated in two games – their longest unbeaten streak in the league so far. Yes, they’re that bad.

Granada are yet to pick up their first win of the campaign and are rooted to the bottom of the pile on five points. Celta Vigo have won their last four home games and should come out on top – one to be included in all multiples.

Real Sociedad 47/10 | Draw 7/2 | Barcelona 5/10

The tie of the weekend sees a rampant Real Sociedad host Barcelona, who suffered a slight hiccup in their title charge, drawing 0-0 against Malaga. Sociedad are in superb form and have won four matches on the trot in La Liga.

Barca, meanwhile, just didn’t look the same without Lionel Messi, who was ruled out with an illness before the game. They will need the maestro to be back in the fold to avoid Sociedad picking up another win in this fixture – like they did last season, winning 1-0. I’m not at all confident in providing you with a winner in this match, with Both Teams to Score tipped at 6/10.

Las Palmas 31/20 | Draw 9/4 | Athletic Bilbao 7/4

Las Palmas, who have been off form in recent weeks, come into this game undefeated at home. They face a tough test when they host Athletic Bilbao, who have been pretty decent on their travels. Bilbao are 10 points off leaders, Real Madrid, and sit in seventh spot in the league. Las Palmas are still somehow in the top half of La Liga, despite their 2-0 loss to Real Betis last weekend.

Bilbao have won just two of their six away games and will look to pull off what no other team has done so far – claim maximum points at the Estadio Gran Canaria. All that said, Las Palmas are tipped on the Double Chance at 4/10.

QUAD @ 7/1
Malaga Win 1/1
Sevilla Win 7/10
Villarreal Win 11/20
Celta Vigo Win 11/20
