LaLiga title race going down to the wire

Atletico Madrid are still top of the table after all of the leading teams won last weekend.

Sevilla will now need a miracle to have any chance of winning LaLiga after a shock defeat at home to Athletic Bilbao last Monday. We are in for a photo finish with only four points separating the top four teams with four matches to go. This is a super weekend as all the top four teams play each other.

Friday 7 May

5/10 Real Sociedad | Draw 31/10 | Elche 52/10

We kick off the weekend fixtures at the Reale Seguros Stadium where Real Sociedad welcome one of the worst teams in the division, Elche. Sociedad will come into this game as overwhelming favourites as they are still fighting to secure their Europa League qualifying spot. It’s just a matter of time until Elche’s relegation is confirmed and I don’t see them getting anything in this game. Back the hosts to win this one.

Saturday 8 May

1/1 Alaves | Draw 5/2 | Levante 26/10

An interesting clash at Estadio Mendizorroza sees Alaves take on Levante. Both these sides have had their moments this season and proved that on their day they can hold their ground against any team. Alaves’ recent form has dragged them into the relegation zone where they are fighting it out with Huesca and Valladolid – only one point separates these three sides. Levante are somewhat safe from the axe, but they will need at least one win to be guaranteed a LaLiga spot next season. Back a draw here.

15/20 Barcelona | Draw 28/10 | Atletico Madrid 33/10

The biggest game of the season will take place at the Camp Nou on Saturday where third-placed Barcelona welcome log leaders Atletico Madrid. Only two points separate these two sides and Barca are aware that a defeat here will be the end of the road for them while a victory will see them top the log with three games to go. So basically, the winner here will have one hand on the LaLiga trophy. Barcelona have not beaten Atletico since December 2019, they’ve lost two of the last three matches. A draw here or a Barca win, will be celebrated by Real Madrid as well. This has to be one of the most interesting LaLiga finishes in recent memory. It’s hard to separate these two sides, so I suggest backing a draw and Both Teams To Score (Yes) at 38/10.

24/10 Cadiz | Draw 22/10 | Huesca 12/10

When we looked at the fixtures in the start of the season, we anticipated that this would form part of a relegation battle. It hasn’t been the case as Cadiz have raised plenty of eyebrows and for me, they are the surprise package of the season. The newcomers are 10 points clear of the red zone. This is a must-win clash for the visitors who have been showing some great fighting spirit this year and I tip them to survive relegation. Back Huesca to win here.

8/10 Athletic Bilbao | Draw 5/2 | Osasuna 36/10

Nobody gave Bilbao a chance when they travelled to Seville last Monday but they silenced everyone by walking away with maximum points. The hosts are now unbeaten in six LaLiga meetings, drawing four and winning two. Osasuna lost their last two matches. Prior to that, they had won three on the bounce and will target this fixture to end their dismal run. Back these sides to cancel each other out.

Sunday 9 May

11/10 Getafe | Draw 21/10 | Eibar 26/10

Getafe have endured a difficuly campaign this time around when compared to last season. In the last campaign, they were there or there about fighting for top four. This time around they are in the relegation mix. Eibar will be relegated from LaLiga at the end of the season and nothing will save them despite winning for the first time last weekend after 18 matches. Back Getafe to win convincingly here.

11/10 Valencia | Draw 22/10 | Real Valladolid 26/10

A low-key affair at the Mestalla sees Valencia host Valladolid. I’m expecting a dull affair here as both teams are enduring a terrible run of form. The hosts are winless in seven LaLiga matches while the visitors are on an eight-match winless run. Back a draw here.

1/1 Villarreal | Draw 26/10 | Celta Vigo 51/20

Villarreal travelled to face Arsenal on Thursday where they took a 2-1 first-leg lead in the semi-finals of the Europa League. After such an intense match, I can say this game came too soon for them and with all the travelling and playing twice a week, we can expect Unai Emery to ring a few changes. Celta Vigo are enjoying a two-match winning streak and will target this game and take full advantage of their opponents’ heavy schedule. Back Celta Vigo to cause an upset here.

21/20 Real Madrid | Draw 5/2 | Sevilla 49/20

Another blockbuster fixture this weekend where second-placed Real Madrid will host fourth-placed Sevilla. Whoever loses here will be out of the title race. A draw here will be celebrated a lot by Atletico Madrid and Barcelona. Real Madrid travelled to England in midweek to play Chelsea in what was a must-win clash in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals, but it doesn’t really help Sevilla as they also played on Monday. Back Los Blancos to get a narrow win here.

Monday 10 May

8/10 Real Betis | Draw 26/10 | Granada 34/10

Real Betis come into this match with very strange form of six draws on the bounce. They welcome fellow mid-table side, Granada, who also have been blowing hot and cold lately. After being knocked out of the UEFA Europa League by Man United, Granada will now fight for a decent finish as they can’t qualify for any European competition next season. Another draw’s on the cards here.

TREBLE @ 15/1

Huesca Win 12/10
Real Madrid Win 21/20
Real Betis vs Granada – Draw 27/10
