The Mamelodi Sundown’s ladies cemented their place as the Queens of African football when they won 3-0 in a thrilling match-up against Sporting Club Casablanca in Sunday’s CAF Women’s Champions League final at Amadou Gon Coulibaly Stadium in Korhogo.

They came home to a warm welcome from fans at the OR Tambo International Airport on Tuesday.

Speaking at a press conference the ‘Banyana ba Style’ coach Jerry Tshabalala said there is no time to celebrate because the focus is now on the Hollywoodbets Super League.

“When I was watching two of their games on live television I felt like we still got it. We have a chance to go out and win the Hollywoodbets Super League, we’ve done it before, and we stand another good chance at winning it again but we have to grind for the results. I’ve already told the girls after the game that the Champions League is done and dusted and now the focus must be on the Hollywoodbets Super League and we have to start training because we’re playing on Thursday, so it shows that we definitely want to win everything,” said Tshabalala.

Reflecting on the journey to winning the CAF Women’s Champions League, coach Tshabalala said it was a tough one.

“This year’s tournament was very difficult compared to the last two tournaments. We were in group A with three debutants, and it wasn’t that easy to plan for them. It was even difficult to find clips of those teams but I’m glad that we worked so hard as a team and went all the way, winning three games in a row. The semis were one of those biggest games, but we managed to also win and come back with the cup in the final.”

“I always say that it was a good omen for us because we won in 2021, the tournament started on the 5th of November until the 19th and again this year it started on the 5th and ended on the 19th so surely it was written in the stars that it’s coming back home.” said Tshabalala.

Mamelodi Sundown’s goalkeeper Andile Dlamini, who was also named the Goalkeeper of the tournament praised her team members’ performance.
