Huge Broos’s men suffered an underwhelming return to national team duty after an impressive performance at the recent Africa Cup of Nations when they played a 1-1 draw against a 164-ranked Andorra on Thursday.

Broos selected an experimental side in the FIFA Series opener and is expected to bring back his big guns against the 2019 AFCON champions on Tuesday.

Rayners has been confirmed by Broos as a starter against Algeria with the speedy attacker a possible remedy to a noted goals shortage by the Belgian tactician.

Speaking at the Bafana camp the 28-year-old attacker said he is happy to be making a return to the Bafana camp.

“For me it’s always a good opportunity to play for the national team, I’m happy to be here, given this opportunity by the coach,” said Rayners.

“I’ve been talking to my family telling me to believe in myself, and always do what you do here (PSL). The camp is good, the guys always motivate me and for me, it’s a good opportunity.

“For me to achieve in a game like this (Algeria) is to score one or two goals, do my best for the team, and help the team win the game that’s what matters to me,” Rayners added.

“Against Algeria, it’s not going to be an easy game even for us (players) it’s not going to be easy but we need to push and work hard motivate each other, help each other to win the game,” he concluded.

South Africa’s next games will be on 3 and 10 June as they will face Nigeria and Zimbabwe in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
