Nabi faced South African media for the first time in Naturena on Friday since he was announced as Amakhosi’s head coach.

The Tunisian tactician has been entrusted with awakening the sleeping giants.

Nabi, 58, joins the club when they are at their lowest, having gone for almost a decade without winning a silverware.

“Looking at the name Kaizer Chiefs and how big the club is in South Africa, it’s most definitely unacceptable for the club not to have a title in nine years,” Nabi told the media.

“Especially, since the club has the biggest fan base, and they are a big brand not only in South Africa but in Africa in general.

“The place where the club is supposed to be and how big the club is, and especially not having a title in a long time, is what made me want to come here and challenge myself.

“I need to put the club back where it’s supposed to be. We need a real strategy to put the club back to where it is supposed to be.”

While Nabi is keen to change the club’s situation, he has asked for patience from supporters.

Lack of success has seen Amakhosi fans become fickle and sometimes violently attack coaches.

“We need to be honest with ourselves and with our supporters themselves. We need to look at our quality without emotions,” Nabi said.

“We need to look at what we have currently without being emotional.

“Once we have analysed what we have and thought of a strategy together of how to drive the club, how to drive team we should get somewhere we want to.

“I don’t want to make promises and make the fans hear what they want to hear, let’s not be at that level.

“We need to prepare and start with analysing, and we will take it from there.

“We understand that the fans are very tired of promises of projects that are coming along at the start of every season. But we can’t do that, we are here to build a strong team fight throughout the year and build ourselves nationally and internationally.

“That is what will make us solid,” Nabi said.

“I’m not making excuses not to win titles, but we will fight in every game. We need to be given a chance and at this current moment, we have very good players at Kaizer Chiefs.

“We would like to add experienced players that will help us.”

Supporters will get to see Chiefs in action under Nabi when they face off with Young Africans of Tanzania in the Toyota Cup at Free State Stadium on Sunday at 15:00.
