Mosimane is set to be conferred with an honorary doctorate by the Gauteng-based university during a ceremony that will take place on July 25.

The three-time Caf Champions League-winning coach who currently coaches Abha FC in the Saudi Pro League in Saudi Arabia had never imagined being bestowed with an honorary doctorate despite his massive success.

“I’m grateful to the University of Johannesburg for choosing to recognise and celebrate my career in such a way,” Mosimane said.

“I have and will always be a student of our beautiful game.

“I’ve won many trophies and awards during my career, but I never thought an accolade such as an honorary doctorate was within my reach as a football person.

“I’m thankful to the leadership at the University of Johannesburg for this acknowledgement and recognition,” he said.

“This achievement would not be possible without the people who have contributed to my journey, including my players, coaches, football administrators, management, media, my supporters and the general support from the public in South Africa.

“Also, the football fraternity from the African continent and the Gulf region. I’m humbled.”

During his time as the SuperSport United, Mamelodi Sundowns, Al Ahly, and Al-Ahli Jeddah coach, Mosimane won a staggering 19 trophies.

The super tactician also has two Club World Cup bronze medals he achieved with Ahly in 2020 and 2021.

On Saturday, Mosimane will continue his mission to save Abha from the axe when they travel to another relegation-threatened side Al-Riyadh for a league game at Prince Faisal Bin Fahd Stadium.

A victory for Abha could see them go level on 24 points with Riyadh.
