Percy Tau has dismissed recent rumours about his potential departure from Egyptian football giants Al Ahly, confirming that he is content at the club.
The Bafana Bafana star has a year remaining on his contract, set to expire in June 2025, and has been linked with moves to various clubs, including Wydad Casablanca, Kaizer Chiefs, and teams in Saudi Arabia.
Despite the speculation, Tau, who formerly played for Brighton & Hove Albion, clarified that no formal offers have been made, and he remains committed to Al Ahly.
He also mentioned that discussions with the club regarding a possible contract extension are on the horizon.
“I think everything just happened so fast, so with the reporting (transfer rumours) when I left the club (Al Alhly) everyone was happy to say go on a break, we are all going on a break, enjoy your time back home,” Tau said on Sports Amplified.
“Just follow the program train whenever you can and that’s where we at but I know my manager, I spoke to the sporting (director at the club) and the we will see what happens if there is a new contract or if there is no new contract.
“But we will all see what happens. I’m not worried, all I wanted was just to get a break and come back home and spend some time (with family).
“We still have enough time to really speak about the contract. I mean we have a year (of a contract left) but it’s going to be difficult because we have to speak in this six months.”
The player expressed his satisfaction with his relationship at Al Ahly, emphasising that both he and the club are happy with each other.
“I’m happy at the club and the club is happy with me. The club is the biggest club so there will always be reports about every individual.
“That is why there was no official reporting from the club, from myself because we felt these are just rumours.”
