Orlando Pirates legend Oupa Mabuza thinks his former team need to appoint a head coach rather than to depend on assistant co-coaches to run the side, as is currently the case.

At present, Pirates have Mandla Ncikazi and Fadlu Davids in charge of the team in an interim basis since coach Josef Zinnbauer resigned in mid-August.

In an interview with KickOff.com, former Pirates defender Mabuza, said he was sad to see there were very few players in the Bucs set-up who took their careers seriously.

“It pains me man it’s so painful,” Mabuza tells KickOff.com.

“Looking from the outside I think we don’t have dedicated players anymore, players who take their careers seriously.

“The biggest thing hurting our team is the chopping and changing of coaches which is killing us.

“It kills us because now every coach when appointed has to start afresh. Remember there is always pressure at Pirates. So a coach is not afforded time.”

Mabuza detailed where he thinks the Buccaneers veered off a path to sustained success.

“But where Pirates lost it, is when they released Ruud Krol,” Mabuza added.

“Pirates made a huge blunder there. I think they needed to build from his success.

“They should have kept him for longer and built on that but still I think the current players are not dedicated enough.

“I don’t know they know how to defend, or whether it’s the coaches. Most of the defenders today don’t know how to defend anymore. So we have a serious problem in our team.”

Mabuza does not see his former side winning the DStv Premiership title this season.

“I don’t see them winning it, as we speak who is even the head coach of Pirates? We don’t know who is the head coach?

“Soon you will find the entire technical team has changed. So this thing of changing head coaches in the middle of the season is killing us,” he added.
