Royal AM coach John Maduka is very proud of his side after they dismantled Kaizer Chiefs 4-1 in the DStv Premiership encounter on Saturday.

In what was Maduka’s 50th match in charge of the newly-renamed club (appointed coach of Bloemfontein Celtic in June 2020) he seemed to have everything right on the day in their resounding victory.

After losing their opening two league games against Moroka Swallows and Cape Town City, Royal have gone on to win their next two games – 1-0 against Chippa United and 4-1 against Chiefs – to sit fourth on the current log.

What makes Saturday’s result all the more satisfying is that the side did not appear to be affected by all the reported drama with regard to unpaid player salaries and reports of the coaches jobs been under threat.

“There are always challenges when there is a transition,” Maduka said in an interview after the match.

“Psychologically we were not ready but then suddenly something like that [Royal AM purchasing Bloem Celtic’s status] happened. The boys have been getting better and better and the team has done very well with the new chairlady and the whole management team.

“They have tried their best to make things get better and psychologically to help wherever they can so that the players focus on the coming games.

“It is not easy whenever there is a transition, but we are getting better because of the help of the management.

“It’s good to see the team winning two games in a row because it gives the players the confidence that they are able to win games.

“We are trying to build a team that can compete and to do that you need to win games because when you win games it gives the team confidence going forward,” he added.

Royal AM will next be up against TS Galaxy at Chatsworth Stadium on Sunday.
