Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams was delighted to be rewarded with a new blockbuster contract after putting pen to paper on a reported multi-million contract extension with Mamelodi Sundowns.
The 32-year-old Bafana Bafana skipper joined the Brazilians in 2022 and has gone on to make 79 appearances for the club, playing a significant role in their successes over the past two campaigns.
Williams’ current deal was set to expire at the end of the 2023/24 season, but has since penned a four-year deal to keep him at Chloorkop for the foreseeable future.
“I’m over the moon, it just shows the belief that the club has in me, it shows the value that I’ve brought to the club,” a delighted Williams told the club’s website.
“There is so much that we can achieve as a team and I’m looking forward to it with lots of excitement.”
Williams added that he had no hesitation in signing a new deal which is a hefty increase on his previous reported R500 000 per month salary..
“It was an easy decision for me, I’ve been happy since day one,” the former SuperSport United shot-stopper added.
“The club has helped me grow as a football player and as a person, so it was a no-brainer for me.
“[The extension] definitely gives us the confidence to end the season on a high, especially now towards the latter stages, this serves as a morale boost to give me that extra push to try and add a few more trophies to the cabinet.”
