Richards Bay took to social media to announce the signing of the 22-year-old but failed to disclose the details of the contract such as the period of the deal.

“We are delighted to announce the signing of Kenyan 🇰🇪 International winger Ovella Ochieng. Welcome to Natal Rich BoyZ Family,” read a statement from the KZN club.

The former Kariobangi Sharks player returns to South Africa for a second stint after he was in the books of Marumo Gallants between August 2021 and January 2022. His stay with the Limpopo-based side was cut short as the 22-year-old failed to feature or get paid, leading him to lodge a complaint against the club with FIFA.

The sharp-footed winger had been training with the club for some time before convincing them to offer him a contract to bolster their less impressive attack that has netted just 11 goals in 13 games.

Despite the blunt attack, Richards Bay currently sit second in DSTV Premiership after a wonderful start to the season and are only five points adrift of table toppers Mamelodi Sundowns.

Before his move to Richards Bay, the former Kariobangi Sharks winger was linked with a move to free spending Kenya Police FC after he was spotted in the club’s training ground.

He becomes the third Kenyan in the South African topflight this season after Sven Yidah (Marumo Gallants) and Brian Onyango (Mamelodi Sundowns).

Richards Bay FC coach Pitso Dladla will hope that Ochieng hits the ground running in no time to help keep the team at the summit of the log come the second term of the campaign.
