Fagrie Lakay opened the scoring at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday on 22 minutes.

Thamsanqa Mkhize added a second on 24 minutes, with Mduduzi Mdantsane (39′) and Craig Martin (58′) also both on target.

But with three points already seemingly in the bag, Arrows came to within a goal of grabbing a point. Pule Mmodi (61′), Nkosinathi Sibisi (Pen 81′) and Nqobeko Dlamini (87′) all scored late on – after City were forced to substitute Thami Mkhize due to injury with 64 minutes played.

Up next for City is the MTN8 final against Mamelodi Sundowns, with Tinkler explaining why this win was so crucial.

Tinkler said on KickOff: “We caught them on the counter with Craig Martin scoring a fantastic fourth goal. Then everything fell apart. I think losing Thami Mkhize when we did was a big loss. All three goals at the end came down our right side.

“We put ourselves really, really under pressure in the last 15 minutes. It was tough the boys had to fight hard to ensure that we took the 4-3 win.

“But the win was very, very important leading into the [MTN8] cup final.”
