Sithebe’s current deal at Amakhosi expires in June after joining the club from AmaZulu where he was a standout player but struggled to hit the same heights for the black and gold.

The 31-year-old made 22 DStv Premiership appearances last season, and just five in the current campaign where he has underwhelmed without either a goal or assist to his name.

“I spent a lot of time not playing when I was injured, but I came back and got a chance. As a player, I am proud that I managed to get fit again, but it was not easy. My focus now is to play games and help the team where they need me,” Sithebe told members of the media.

“That is where my focus is because if I focus on the contract, it will distract me. I will focus on the contract [negotiations] when I have played all the games that are remaining.”

Sithebe, alongside Edmilson Dove, Sifiso Hlanti, Njabulo Ngcobo, and Itumeleng Khune are among the players whose deals are coming up at the end of June, and Sithebe seems to have come to terms with the possibility of playing his football elsewhere next season.

“It was part of the journey to play for Chiefs and I got the chance and I experienced being a part of this team. I’ve gained experience. I just need to stay focused and positive and try to keep myself fit because anything can happen.

“Things can change because we can go to SuperSport United and play very well. If we can collect maximum points in these six games that are left, we don’t know where we can end up.

“Teams are not the same, there is a lot of pressure in every game. Even if you play a draw, the supporters are not happy because they want to win every game.

“I wanted to achieve a lot of things and play for this big team but if things are not turning out that way, as a player, I need to understand that maybe it is not time and maybe it was not meant to be. But I will keep pushing because, in football, things can change in one game,” said Sithebe.

The former Usuthu star will raise his hand for another opportunity when Chiefs host SuperSport United at the Peter Mokaba Stadium this Saturday.

Kick-off is set for 17:30.
