PREVIEW: Dortmund look to keep pace with Bayern – Bundesliga Gameweek 11

Friday 5 November

Mainz 31/20 | Draw 51/20 | Borussia Monchengladbach 16/10 (21:30)

Jonathan Burkardt is on fire! Four goals and one assist in his last three league matches makes him the main man for Mainz. Three straight wins in all competitions for the home team will be a major confidence boost going into a tough matchup with Borussia Monchengladbach who have bounced back after a draw and loss before winning at home over Bochum. For the Friday night fixture, the home team in form and with fans will take all three points.

Saturday 6 November

Bayern Munich 2/11 | Draw 13/2 | Freiburg 10/1 (16:30)

There are two danger men to keep an eye out for when Bayern Munich host Freiburg. Robert Lewandowski and Bayern look to be back to their best after being devastatingly knocked out of the DFB Pokal and the experienced Thomas Muller found two assists and a goal last time out. The travelling team maintain their fine form and continue to produce quality football, still undefeated in the league with four draws and six wins. They face the true test of the Bundesliga and sit three points shy of their opponents on top of the table. Freiburg’s defence has been the key to maintaining an unbeaten run of form, conceding seven in their 10 matches played. Of all the teams to play Bayern with hope of an upset, it would be Freiburg, take them on the win/draw double chance at 49/20.

Wolfsburg 11/20 | Draw 32/10 | Augsburg 48/10 (16:30)

Wolfsburg is a team to stay away from when betting! Started the season off in fine form, going on a winless streak of eight fixtures and then bouncing back against an in-form Bayer Leverkusen without a manager at the helm…? Augsburg make the trip to the Volkswagen Arena where they have won just three times in 10 attempts with the last being four years ago. They do, however, carry a 4-1 win over Stuttgart which can spill over into this gameweek. This fixture has uncertainty written all over it and backing a draw is the play.

Stuttgart 8/10 | Draw 11/4 | Arminia Bielefeld 32/10 (16:30)

Battle of the strugglers! A combined two wins between the two teams shows the level they are currently performing at. One positive, and possibly the only, both teams have scored in each of their last three matches. Armenia sit 17th on five points while Stuttgart are 13th with 10 points. Back both teams to score (yes) and a draw at 38/10.

Bochum 26/10 | Draw 28/10 | Hoffenheim 9/10 (16:30)

I had faith in Bochum last gameweek, more because of their opposition’s form but inclusive of their three-match win streak, and yet they failed to deliver. They now welcome Hoffenheim who are on a three-match win streak in all competitions because who really counts a loss to Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga. Hoffenheim will take a win in enemy territory.

RB Leipzig 31/20 | Draw 51/20 | Borussia Dortmund 16/10 (19:30)

Match of the weekend! Back and forth RB Leipzig take on a defensive work in progress that is Borussia Dortmund. The travelling Black and Yellows were dealt a bigger blow earlier this week when Michael Zorc made known Erling Haaland will be out until December.

There are enough options coming off the bench though, and the man that has found the net three times in Dortmund’s last two matches is Belgian winger Thorgan Hazard. The home team are beginning to pick up form with their last three losses in 10 fixtures all in the UEFA Champions League. Since coming in at the start of the season, Jesse Marsch has continued to tinker with Leipzig’s formations and personnel.

Last gameweek’s 1-1 draw away from home against Eintracht Frankfurt was the first time he played a front three of Dominik Szoboszlai, Yousef Poulsen and Christopher Nkunku in a 3-4-3 formation, and should Marsch play the same frontline in their midweek Champions League fixture in success, we’re in for a treat against Dortmund. Back both teams to score (yes) and over 2.5 goals at 8/10 to enjoy an end-to-end tie at the Red Bull Arena.

Sunday 7 November

Hertha Berlin 49/20 | Draw 26/10 | Bayer Leverkusen 1/1 (16:30)

Bayer Leverkusen are definitely eyeing a continuation of European football at the end of this season. After dropping points to an out of form Wolfsburg last time out, the pressure will mount without a win in five fixtures through all competitions. Hertha Berlin holds six wins and six losses in all competitions. The Old Lady either has a good day or a bad day, nothing in between. Leverkusen take part in a Europa League tie in midweek before travelling to Berlin, and the constant competition might be proving their demise rather than glory. Back the home team to take a win in this battle of attrition.

Cologne 12/10 | Draw 5/2 | Union Berlin 43/20 (18:30)

Union Berlin get to travel away after their 21-game unbeaten run came to an end in their 5-2 loss to defending champions Bayern Munich. They had to chase the game after going down three goals to nil in the first half, leaving space for Bayern to exploit. One win in their last three fixtures, Cologne are slowly dropping off the pace as they now sit 11th on the table, just four points from the relegation zone. While Union lost their last match, they are in decent form, winning three of their last five. The away team are the in-form team and a win against the Billy Goats is one to make.

Greuther Furth 5/2 | Draw 11/4 | Eintracht Frankfurt 19/20 (20:30)

The weakest team when referring to results in all top five European leagues is Greuther Furth. One point, seven goals for and 27 against in 10 Bundesliga matches, including a first-round DFB Pokal elimination to ‘no name’ Babelsberg means I do not have to examine the form of their opposition. Back Eintracht in every multiple.
