PREVIEW: League 1 – Paris Saint-Germain vs Lens

A game with plenty of influence on the French title! In PSG, you have a team who have been here before. Lens seek to upset the apple cart and have a real crack at a unique modern title.

PSG

In truth, I’ve got no idea what to make of Paris Saint-Germain here. They have been almost dramatically inconsistent this season and at times looked as though they could be beat by just about anyone.

They come into the game, winning just two from their last five, scoring four goals and conceding six. Ligue 1 has 10 games remaining and PSG currently sit at the summit of the league, six points clear of their opponents, Lens.

World football’s worst kept secret is that PSG judge their season on their success in the Champions League and that even after winning their domestic title a nauseating number of times – they still respect and strive for domestic success…I care to differ. I think their early European exit goes on of two ways, they entertain complacency for the remainder of the season, or they use the chance to become champions once more to make a statement.

Given their more recent performances, there is a lack of consistency and security, a combination which is dangerous to any club in the world.

Predicted Line-up: Donnarumma, Ramos, Marquinhos, Perreira, Mendes, Soler, Sanches, Vitinha, Haikimi, Mbappe, Messi.

Lens

In terms of form and recent performances, Lens come into the game off a brilliant little patch of competitiveness. They are unbeaten in their last five games, they play with a daring confidence, they are scoring for fun and all the while they are keeping PSG honest in this title race.

I suppose every neutral is getting behind Lens in this one, I mean should they successfully hunt down PSG and claim a league title, it would likely be brilliant for French football.

For sure, this is easier said than done. PSG won’t roll over and want to entertain the challenge, but I think that should Lens show as little respect for their hosts as possible and make a concerted effort to get at them defensively and ask questions in their defensive third – the result might surprise a few.

I would even go as far as to say that should PSG not start with a degree of conviction, their fans become impatient and inadvertently add pressure to the situation. All of these factors might be realized this weekend and have an effect.

Predicted Line-up: Samba, Gradit, Danso, Medina, Sotoca, Samed, Fofana, Frankowski, Thomasson, Openda, Fulgini.

Verdict: PSG Win (7/10)

The price available about the Lens win is certainly rather attractive, and I wouldn’t dissuade you from having a punt at all. Yet with that being said, the talent PSG have is undeniable, the game is such that anything, but a win adds pressure to their title quest.

The pride of Paris is playing at home, with a fit squad and are available at 7/10 – I can’t let the chance go.
