Relebohile Mofokeng had given the Buccaneers the lead in the first half but the Cape side hit back and found the equaliser through Gadiel Kamagi.

With the Soweto derby against Kaizer Chiefs coming up this weekend, Pirates were looking for a win that would have taken them into second place in the league standings.

Spurs though had beaten Pirates in the reverse fixture and came into the contest on the back of consecutive league wins as they continue to try and move off the bottom of the table.

The home side did start the match well and the opening goal came after 12 minutes, and it was from neat build-up play that started from goalkeeper Sipho Chaine.

The ball eventually made it’s way to Mofokeng on the left wing and 19-year-old showed good composure to cut in curl a beautiful right-footed shot into the far-corner.

The Buccaneers certainly had the better of the game in the opening stanza but could not get a second goal to give themselves some breathing space.

Spurs were much better after the halftime interval and started to exert some pressure on the Pirates with plenty of mistakes creeping into the hosts’ performance.

The visitors eventually leveled the score with 15 minutes remaining, Kamagi finding space on the left-hand side and burying an effort that gave Chaine no chance.

Pirates threw everything forward looking for the winner in the final stages with visiting shot-stopper Neil Boshoff pulling off a fine save from a header.

The home team were then livid with the referee after substitute Zakhele Lepasa appeared to have been fouled inside the box by Denwin Farmer but their shouts for a penalty were waved away.
