Will Richards Bay get in the way of high-flying Sundowns?

The reigning champions will come to the King Zwelithini Stadium looking to make history by winning their opening five games of the league season for the first time. A win will also see them establish an eight-point gap at the top of the log, with SuperSport and TS Galaxy (who have a game in hand) only returning to action in the weekend.

Sundowns have a 100% record this season – while a struggling Richards Bay side is still looking for their first win of the season. The last time they tasted victory was on January 14 when they beat Marumo Gallants 2-0. Since then, it has been uphill struggle for the club from northern KZN.

Coach Kaitano Tembo has admitted to being worried about facing Sundowns, who seem to be unstoppable already this early in the season.

King Zwelithini Stadium

King Zwelithini Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Umlazi, a township south-west of Durban, South Africa. It is currently used mostly for football matches and was initially set to be utilized as a training field for teams participating in the 2010 FIFA World Cup after being renovated in 2010 and brought up to FIFA standards.

However, since teams would be residing in the north of Durban, it was decided that King Zwelithini Stadium was too far away for practice sessions.

The stadium’s capacity was expanded from 5,000 to 10,000 as a lasting legacy of the World Cup.

The stadium is named after the Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu.
