DSTV PREMIERSHIP: Undefeated Mamelodi Sundowns just 7 wins away from invincible season after latest victory over TS Galaxy

The Brazilians dominated possession and territory from the opening whistle on a balmy evening in Pretoria.

Sharpshooter Peter Shalulile scored the opening goal in the 26th minute. Themba Zwane curled in a beautiful cross from the right side of the pitch and the Namibian sniper needed just one touch to put the ball in the back of the net from the six-yard box.

Nine minutes later, Sundowns weaved their magic through the TS Galaxy defence once again. Slick passing put Zwane in space, who teed up his teammate Shalulile who continued his lethal streak against TS Galaxy, scoring his seventh goal in eight matches against them.

In the second stanza, Sundowns continued to impress. This time, scorer Shalulile turned provider as he controlled a cross and tapped it to the ever-present Zwane in the penalty spot, who then unselfishly side-footed the ball into the path of Thembinkosi Lorch who thundered the ball home.

There was some late drama as Orebotse Mangae came in from behind a terrible challenge on Bongani Zungu, earning him a straight red card and an early shower.

Meanwhile, with little else to celebrate, TS Galaxy rejoiced at the return of Bernard Parker off the bench. The 38-year-old made his return after six months out with a broken leg. The PSL legend even had a chance to grab a consolation goal from the penalty spot, but Bafana Bafana stopper Ronwen Williams rained on his parade, pulling off a fine but unpopular save.

The victory puts Sundowns within three points of winning the title. If second-place Stellenbosch FC loses to Golden Arrows on Wednesday, Sundowns will be crowned champions. If not, they can do it themselves against old rivals Kaizer Chiefs on Thursday.
