Experienced tactician Steve Komphela has made a dramatic return to Mamelodi Sundowns to be part of a revamped technical team following the departure of Rulani Mokwena.
The club had announced that Mokwena had agreed to mutually part ways after reported differences regarding player recruitment and transfer targets with the club hierarchy spearheaded by director of football Flemming Berg.
The Brazilians have now signalled their intent with a new technical team potentially headed by Komphela and current incumbent Manqoba Mngqithi.
“Mamelodi Sundowns today welcomed Steve Komphela who will serve as Senior Coach and will assist Manqoba Mngqithi and the Technical Team,” a Sundowns statement said.
“Steve Komphela said, “I am very excited to be back at Mamelodi Sundowns where I was always inspired and treated with respect and love. I am committed to contributing to the Club achieving its goals in South Africa and on the African Continent.”
“Mamelodi Sundowns is currently training in South Africa for the upcoming season and will be leaving in a few days to Austria as part of its pre-season preparations.”
