Chiefs announced the acquisition of duo Bradley Cross and Njabulo Blom as the club’s latest signings to strengthen in an attempt to challenge for honours.

The duo joined the Soweto giants alongside fellow new signings: Fiacre Ntwari, Rushwin Dortley, Bongani Sam, Gaston Sirino and Inácio Miguel.

Chiefs not done in transfer market

Despite having already now made seven signings, Nabi revealed that his squad is still to be fine-tuned with even more arrivals and departures expected.

“Our squad has a lot of quality, but I don’t think this will be the final squad as we’re still working on getting in new players to strengthen the team,” Nabi said.

“At a big team such as Kaizer Chiefs you need players of high quality in all aspects of the team, like your defence, midfield and attack. It is easier to look for a defender than a striker and if you want top players you need to take your time.

“We’re working hard behind the scenes to identify a profile of player we can recruit with the right opportunity.

“We’re working alongside the club to identify the correct profile of player in defence, where we are yet to identify players in attack. But I am working closely with the club and ownership committee where I am needing a striker or perhaps wingers.

“But, any new recruit needs to be better than what I already have to improve the squad.”

More departures expected

“When the opportunity arises, we will make announcements out of respect for the players,” Nabi added.

“We’re also working with other clubs to search for another opportunity for those outgoing players for the best possibility out of the club, be it on loan or permanently.

“For the squad the number that I have in mind is 20 or a maximum of 22 players. I am trying the definitively push for this number but it’s not easy.”

“I know what quality I want”

The Tunisian added that the club had rejected an unnamed striker with European experience as their search continues for a lethal striker capable of igniting the club’s search for silverware.

“He’s not the level required for Kaizer Chiefs and not at the level I needed, and it’s simple you don’t just recruit on the basis of a name,” Nabi added.

“I know what quality I want for my team, and I am very happy because the committee have given me a blank chequebook and I don’t want to waste this money.

“This is a big club and if you’re at a big club you need big players.”

Chiefs get their campaign underway with an away trip to Marumo Gallants at Free State Stadium on 14 September.
