Kaizer Chiefs interim coach Cavin Johnson praised the calmer approach displayed by his team in their 3-2 DStv Premiership victory against Cape Town Spurs.
The Glamour Boys secured their first win under Johnson following a 2-1 defeat to high-flying Golden Arrows in his first match at the helm.
Amakhosi were playing the fixture behind closed doors with no spectators following a sanction for unruly fan behaviour against Amazulu in their Carling Cup defeat recently.
“It’s our second game together, 48 hours of training, I thought it was a game of a lot of patches. You have got to give credit to Cape Town Spurs, they gave us a good run for our money,” said Johnson.

“But we have been working very hard on being a lot calmer, playing the ball better, getting the ball in certain areas that we think we can hurt teams. And I thought the three goals we scored were from the way we trained.”
Chiefs were leading 2-0 midway through the first half but conceded near the end of each half to end up clinching the match 3-2, following a nervy stoppage time.
“I have credit to them (Chiefs players), they put in a good shift in patches, but football is made out of moments and in the moments that we wanted to score, we scored the goals, but then we also dropped our heads for the moments we conceded,” added the 64-year-old.
“Kaizer Chiefs really, we building and we building something positive for the next few games of the PSL.”
Amakhosi will turn their attention to the much-anticipated fixture against rivals Orlando Pirates on Saturday, where they will be looking to record their sixth consecutive Soweto derby victory. Kick-off is at 15h30.
