Middendorp was dismissed after guiding Maritzburg out of the relegation zone to finish 12th in the DStv Premiership which was not deemed good enough by club officials.

Davids coincidentally also lost his job as co-coach of Orlando PIrates recently after what was termed a poor season despite finishing sixth on the log and reaching the CAF Confederation Cup final.

According to The Sowetan, Davids has been linked to his former club Maritzburg, which he left in 2019 to join Pirates.

Various media reports have also been linking the 41-year-old David to the SuperSport United coaching position.

When asked about his future by The Sowetan, Davids would not divulge much, saying: “A lot of journalists have been calling me wanting to talk about my time at Pirates and where I’m going.

“Please give me time as I’m on holiday, and I will only talk about this after a week,” Davids told The Sowetan.

When asked about Middendorp’s departure from Maritzburg on Tuesday, club chairman Farouk Kadodia told TimesLIVE that he was fired as the club had battled the whole season fighting relegation and thata change was needed.

“We will make a full statement soon. The main reason is the reality that we cannot keep fighting relegation,” Kadodia told TimesLIVE.

“We have invested a lot in football development overall but especially in the past two years. We supported the coach fully and the board felt that by investing so much money every year we cannot continuously be fighting relegation.”

According to The Sowetan, SuperSport CEO Stan Matthews would not confirm any of the speculation surrounding the clubs vacant coaching position saying a statement would be released towards the end of June in that regard.

“I can’t respond to rumours. Our head coach appointment will only be made in the last week of June,” Matthews said via a text.

“We have many applications, so I’m not commenting on any specific names. Andre Arendse remains in charge as interim head coach while we navigate the off-season programmes and activities.”
